A native of Glencoe, IL, Alan earned a PhD in microbiology at Purdue Univ. During his almost 40 years in academics he has worked at colleges, universities and medical schools throughout the US and in two Caribbean countries. His wide range of eclectic interests led him to compete in the amateur jumper division of horse shows throughout the South and study biblical Hebrew in Jerusalem. His latest move, to southeast Arizona in 2017, revealed to him the beautiful dark skies of the desert Southwest. It wasn’t long before he traded in his microscope for a telescope, built an observatory in his backyard and began spending many late nights observing the hidden beauty of the deep sky. Alan’s art combines his love of science and nature with a lifelong passion for photography. He currently resides in Sierra Vista, AZ.
